SoftBank sister firm to invest $4 bn in Gujarat’s renewable energy sector

SB Energy, a sister company of Soft Bank of Japan, has announced that it will invest USD 4 billion or Rs 30,000 crore in renewable energy sector in Gujarat.

The announcement was made at a meeting between Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and Executive Chairman of SB Energy Manoj Kohli.

The investment will be in solar energy, wind energy and other unconventional renewable energy sources.

The present installed capacity of renewable energy in Gujarat is 8,885 MW and the state government aims to ramp it up to 30,000 MW by 2022.

Alliance Air starts Guwahati, Dimapur, Imphal flight under UDAN scheme

Alliance Air, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Air India Limited, today formally commenced its maiden flight operation, connecting Guwahati, Dimapur, and Imphal.

The initiative is being done under the regional connectivity scheme, Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik (UDAN). It will operate between Guwahati, Dimapur and Imphal, three times a week on both routes. 

The Ministry of Civil Aviation had launched the UDAN scheme in October 2016 with the objective of making air travel affordable and widespread, and to boost air transport infrastructure development of all regions and states of India.

8th India-China joint training exercise commences in Meghalaya

The 8th India-China joint training exercise ‘HAND-IN-HAND 2019’ with the themecounter-terrorism under United Nations mandate commenced” today at Joint Training Node (JTN), Umroi in Meghalaya.

The exercise is planned at the company level with respective Battalion Headquarters controlling the training. The Chinese contingent is led by Col Hu Chunguang, 1st Infantry Battalion, Tibet Military Command while the Indian contingent is led by Col KJ Singh of the Kumaon Regiment.

Major General Deepak Mehra, KC, VSM, General Officer Commanding Red Horns Division during the inaugural session said, the joint- military exercise is historic as it marks the 70th year since the establishment of diplomatic ties between India and China and there are 70 other celebratory activities organized between India and China during this year.

The focus on the initial four days of the exercise will be on Orientation to Training Area, Lectures on Counter Insurgency or Counter Terrorism environment, the firing of weapons, improvised Explosive Devices drills and various other aspects.

Govt disbursed Rs 36,000 crore to farmers under PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi

Around 36 thousand crore rupees have been disbursed under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi this year. Giving this information in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha yesterday, Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar said, around seven crores 60 lakh farmers have been benefited under the scheme.

Total 799 Van Dhan Vikas Kendra opened in 24 states

A total of 799 Van Dhan Vikas Kendra in the 24 states have been opened since the launch of Pradhan Mantri Van Dhan Yojana. These Kendra benefiting 12 lakh tribals across the country by providing market access to their products.

Van Dhan Vikas Karyakram is an initiative targeting livelihood generation for tribal population by harnessing the wealth of forest i.e. Van Dhan. The program aims to tap into the traditional knowledge and skillsets of tribal people by adding technology and Information Technology for up-gradation of output at each stage and to convert the tribal wisdom into a remunerative economic activity. Van Dhan Vikas Karyakram seeks to promote and leverage the collective strength of tribal people to achieve a viable scale.

On April 14th, 2018Hon’ble Prime Minister of India has announced the launching of Van Dhan Yojana in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh under which one Van Dhan Vikas Kendra was set up, as a pilot project, at a cost of Rs.25 lakhs of which 25% is to be met by the State Government. This Van Dhan Vikas Kendra is to cater to ten Self Help Groups of thirty tribal gathers each.

7th December 2019: Armed Forces Flag Day

Armed Forces Flag Day is observed across the country today. It is observed on the 7th of December every year to honour the martyrs and Armed Forces personnel, who safeguard the motherland. The day is dedicated to the collection of funds from people for the welfare of the Armed Forces personnel. The fund collected on this day is also used for the welfare of the serving personnel and ex-servicemen.

8th edition of Embassy’s annual film festival inaugurated at Riyadh

Embassy’s annual film festival titled “Ambassador’s Choice: Screening of Films” saw the popular Hindi film ‘Dangal’ screened at Riyadh, which drew a large number of audience. The eighth edition of the Embassy’s annual film festival was inaugurated at the auditorium of Embassy of India, Riyadh.  Mr. Suresh Prabhu, Member of Parliament and India’s Sherpawas present on the occasion as the Chief Guest to G-20.

OPEC and its allies decide to cut oil production by 5 Lakh barrels per day

OPEC group of oil-producing countries and their allies, including Russia, have decided to cut oil production by 500,000 barrels per day.  In a meeting in Vienna, they agreed to reduce production to stem pressure on prices from abundant reserves and weak global economic growth. 

According to a statement, Ministers gathered at OPEC headquarters decided for an additional adjustment of five lakh barrels per day, effective from 1st January 2020. This would bring production 1.7 million barrels per day below October 2018 levels.

OPECOrganization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) is an intergovernmental organization of 14 nations, founded on 14 September 1960 in Baghdad by the first five members (Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Venezuela), and headquartered since 1965 in Vienna, Austria.

As of September 2018, the then 14 member countries accounted for an estimated 44 percent of global oil production and 81.5 percent of the world’s “proven” oil reserves, giving OPEC a major influence on global oil prices that were previously determined by the so-called “Seven Sisters” grouping of multinational oil companies.

UNICEF honours Priyanka Chopra with Danny Kaye Humanitarian Award

Priyanka Chopra has been honoured with UNICEF’s Danny Kaye Humanitarian Award. The India star was named the 2019 recipient of the Humanitarian Award by the United Nations Children’s Fund in June this year and received the award at the Snowflake Ball Tuesday night. Priyanka Chopra is also the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for Child Rights.

The purpose of International Civil Aviation Day is to help generate and reinforce worldwide awareness of the importance of international civil aviation to the social and economic development of States, and of the unique role of ICAO in helping States to cooperate and realize a truly global rapid transit network at the service of all mankind.

7th December 2019: GST Stakeholder Feedback Diwas

A Nationwide GST Stakeholder Feedback Diwas for new GST returns was observed on 7th December 2019. The aim of organizing this event was to get an on-the-spot response to the new GST Returns to be introduced from the 1st of April next year.

GST revenue collection witnessed an impressive recovery with a positive growth of six percent in November as compared to the collections of the same month last year. The gross GST revenue collected in November was one lakh three thousand 492 crore rupees.
