ISRO’s PSLV to launch RISAT-2BR1, 9 commercial satellites in its 50th Mission
PSLV-C48, which is the 50th mission of PSLV, will launch RISAT-2BR1 from the First Launch Pad (FLP) of Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC), Sriharikota.
The launch is scheduled at 15:25 Hrs. IST on 11th December.
RISAT-2BR1, a Radar imaging earth observation satellite about 628 kg, will be placed into an orbit of 576 km at an inclination of 37 degrees.
The RISAT-2BR1 is a spy satellite that is launched to boost the Indian military’s Earth surveillance. RISAT is an Indian radar imaging reconnaissance satellites built by ISRO. These satellites provide all-weather earth observations. So far, ISRO has put 310 foreign satellites into orbit.
PSLV-C48 will also carry 9 customer satellites of Israel (1), Italy (1), Japan (1) and USA (6) as co-passengers.
These satellites are – USA’s multi-mission Lemur-4 satellites, technology demonstration Tyvak-0129, earth imaging 1HOPSAT, Israel’s remote sensing Duchifat-3, Italy’s search, and rescue Tyvak-0092, and Japan’s QPS-SAR – a radar imaging earth observation satellite.
These international customer satellites are being launched under a commercial arrangement with NewSpace India Limited (NSIL).PSLV-C48 is the 2nd flight of PSLV in ‘QL’ configuration (with 4 strap-on motors). This will be the 75th launch vehicle mission from SDSC SHAR, Sriharikota and 37th launch from the First Launchpad.
Parliament passes Arms (Amendment), Bill
The Parliament passed the Arms (Amendment) Bill 2019 with the Rajya Sabha approving it today.
The Arms (Amendment) Bill, 2019, which also has a provision for imprisonment of two years or fine which may extend to Rs 1 lakh or both for those using firearms in a rash or negligent manner in celebratory gunfire, endangering human life or personal safety of others, was passed by a voice vote in Rajya Sabha.
The Arms Act, 1959 is an Act of the Parliament of India to consolidate and amend the law relating to arms and ammunition in order to curb illegal weapons and violence stemming from them.
Driverless vehicles being tested on 5G technology in UAE
In the United Arab Emirates, driverless vehicles are being tested on 5G technology ahead of a planned deployment of such vehicles on roads.
Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, the Director-General of the UAE’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, TRA said, they will expand 5G network to important sectors such as transport, health, and education. 5G-enabled driverless vehicles will be able to have more efficient and quick communication with each other and traffic infrastructure, which will help to minimize traffic jams and bottlenecks. The 5G technology can also enable these vehicles to identify traffics conditions and potential dangers quickly.
India finished on top with 312 medals in 13th South Asian Games
The Ministry of Youth and Sports of Nepal unveiled the logo and mascot of the 13th South Asian Games. The ministry along with the Nepal Olympic Committee revealed a pair of blackbucks (Krishnashar)as the official mascot for the 2019 South Asian Games.
India finished on top with 312 medals comprising 174 gold, 93 silver and 45 bronze in Kathmandu, Nepal. Host Nepal remained second and Sri Lanka got third place. Three different cities in Nepal hosted the competition, Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Janakpur.
SBI announces a reduction in one-year MCLR by 10 basis points
The country’s largest lender State Bank of India has announced the reduction in its Marginal Cost Of Fund Based Lending Rate (MCLR) by 10 basis points across all one-year products. It will be effective from today. This is the eighth consecutive cut in MCLR by the lender this fiscal. The new one-year MCLR has been cut to 7.90% from 8%.
Lok Sabha passes a bill to extend SC-ST quota for 10 years
The Lok Sabha has passed the Constitution (126th Amendment) Bill, 2019 with bipartisan support.
All 355 members in the House voted in favor of the Bill when it was put to division. The amendment seeks to extend the reservation for SCs and STs by another ten years. Originally the reservation is to expire by the 25th January next year, and the Bill is intended to extend it till 25th January 2030.
Ethiopia’s PM receives Nobel Peace Prize
Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has received the 2019 Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to achieve international peace and co-operation.
After receiving the prestigious award in a formal ceremony at Oslo’s City Hall today, Mr. Ahmed said, he accepted this award on behalf of Ethiopians and Eritreans, especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the cause of peace.
This year’s Nobel Peace Prize was the 100th to be awarded. The Nobel Peace Prize consists of a diploma, a gold medal and a cheque for nine million Swedish kronor (850,000 euros).
Abu Dhabi selected as the world’s leading sports tourism destination
Abu Dhabi has been selected as the world’s leading Sports tourism Destination at the 26th edition of the World Travel Awards (WTA) being held in Muscat. This is the seventh time in a row that Abu Dhabi has been selected for this coveted award.
The award is the latest in several prestigious accolades gained by Abu Dhabi this year, including being selected as the West Asia’s Leading Business Tourism Destination at the West Asia edition of WTA and Best City Break at the UK’s Selling Travel Agents’ Choice Awards.
Abu Dhabi shined as a premium destination once again for sports tourism in 2019 after hosting some of the world’s top sporting events, such as the FIFA Club World Cup 2017 and 2018, the first edition of the UAE Tour, the AFC Asian Cup 2019, the Special Olympics World Games 2019, the UFC 242 showdown and the Brazil vs South Korea international friendly match.
The UAE capital also continues to play host to annual acclaimed sports events including the Formula 1 Etihad Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon, the Mubadala World Tennis Championship, the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship, and the ITU World Triathlon Abu Dhabi.
UAE, US joint military exercise ‘Iron Union 12’commences
‘Iron Union 12’, a joint military exercise between the ground forces of the UAE and the United States, commenced in the presence of Major General Saleh Mohamed Saleh Al Amiri, UAE Commander of Land Forces and Lieutenant General Terry Ferrell, commander of US Army Central, USARCENT. Spanning a few weeks, ‘Iron Union 12’ will see the two sides take part in joint military cooperation to enhance combat and tactical capabilities.
George Laurer, inventor of bar code dies at 94
George J. Laurer, whose invention of the Universal Product Code at IBM transformed retail and other industries around the world, has died. He was 94. He died on Thursday at his home in Wendell, North Carolina in the US.
Laurer was an electrical engineer with IBM in North Carolina’s Research Triangle Park in the early 1970s when he spearheaded the development of the UPC, or bar code.

MOU signed Between NSIC & ARAMCO Asia for development in Oil & Gas Sectors
An MoU has been signed recently between NSIC and Aramco Asia for the development of MSME Ecosystem in India in Oil & Gas Sector. This MoU will pave a way for accredited Indian MSMEs to carve out a space as vendors in the Global space. From NSIC side Shri P. Udayakumar, Director (P&M) and from Aramco side Mr. Mohammed Al Mughirah, President, Aramco Asia inked the MoU.
